Production of the current gasoline-powered GMC Savana will end in the 2025 marking it’s last year in the history. Launched in 1996 these vans last received major update in 2003. In 2026 we will see all electric GMC Savana replacing ICE models and it will be built on the GM’s dedicated Ultium platform and modular battery technology.

Key Changes & Expected Features
Major change is in its platform shift, it will replace bod-on-frame with flat “skateboard” EV chassis making it lower center of gravity and giving us more interior space.
Best part is 2026 Savana EV will share technology/architecture with GM’s commercial BrightDrop Zevo 600 delivery van which is already deployed with FedEx.
- Range: ~250 miles (based on Zevo 600 performance).
- Cargo Capacity: Expected to exceed 600+ cubic feet (current Savana: 284 cu ft).
- Charging Speed: Adds ~170 miles of range per hour using a 120-kW DC fast charger
Comparison with ICE Models
Aspect | Outgoing Savana (2025) | 2026 Savana EV (Projected) |
---|---|---|
Key Strength | Low cost, 10,000-lb towing | Zero emissions, lower operating costs |
Tech/Comfort | Basic, no standard touchscreen | Modern EV connectivity & features |
Cargo Capacity | 284 cu ft (max) | 600+ cu ft (estimated) |
Price | ~$44,000 (base) | Expected significant increase (e.g., $58,000+) |
Despite expected impressive features there are some things needs to be answered. I feel the 10,000-lb towing capacity of ICE model is unlikely to be matched with EV range constraints. There is also no confirmation on the 5-passenger EV variant to replace the current model which i feel much needed.
Bigger problem with 2026 GMC Savana EV is that it will be priced much higher than current ICE model. So i doubt how buyers will adopt this.
2026 Savana Competitors
2026 Savana will face major competition from the three vehicles. Ford E-transit which is based on gas van platform with range of 126-miles. Next is Ram ProMaster EV which has much more EV range of ~174-miles and lastly, my personal favorite Mercedes eSprinter having ~150-mile range in base model.
