The next-generation Chevrolet Bolt is expected to be introduced in the U.S. as a 2026 model later this year. In this post, we’ll discuss the 10 key features, aspects, and updates that we expect on the future electric crossover.

Crossover Design
The next-gen 2026 Chevy Bolt will adopt a crossover body style, moving away from the previous hatchback design. As shown in our renderings, it is expected to draw inspiration from newer models like the Blazer EV and Equinox EV.
The design will feature a more SUV-like appearance with split headlamps, a redesigned tailgate, and updated brake light placement for a refreshed look.
LFP Battery
2026 Bolt will introduce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. These iron-based cells are more cost-effective, durable, and temperature-resistant, though they offer lower energy density.
The new Bolt is expected to achieve an EPA-estimated range of approximately 260 miles, with DC fast charging enabling 100 miles of range in just 30 minutes.
NACS Charging Port
The inclusion of an NACS charging port will grant Bolt customers access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network of over 18,000 stations across North America. This addition addresses customer demands for better charging infrastructure, making the Bolt a more convenient EV option.
Heat Pump Integration
To improve winter performance, the new Bolt is likely to feature a heat pump. This would enhance energy efficiency in cold weather by leveraging GM’s Ultium Energy Recovery system, which has been introduced in models like the Blazer EV and Equinox EV.
Autonomous Robo-Taxi Version
GM plans to launch a robo-taxi based on the next-gen Bolt. This new approach shifts the platform from the Cruise Origin to the Bolt, streamlining scaling and regulatory processes while leveraging the Bolt’s design and infrastructure for autonomous ride-sharing applications.
Updated Platform
The 2026 Bolt will utilize a heavily re-engineered version of the BEV2 platform, incorporating elements from GM’s latest EV toolkit.
This strategy ensures cost savings and faster development timelines compared to using the architecture of the Equinox or Blazer EV.
New Infotainment System
The Bolt will adopt a customized Android-based infotainment system, similar to what is found in the Equinox EV and Blazer EV. This system is a significant upgrade from the first-generation Bolt’s infotainment technology. However, as with other recent GM EVs, it is not expected to support Apple CarPlay.
Streamlined Variant Strategy
GM’s “Winning with Simplicity” strategy, announced in 2023, is expected to simplify trim levels and options for the next-gen Bolt.
However, features such as Super Cruise, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and appearance packages like the Redline Edition are expected to remain available.
Sub-$30,000 Pricing
The new Chevrolet Bolt will be priced slightly higher than the 2023 model, which started at $28,750. General Motors plans to keep the new model under $30,000, offering competitive pricing while adding updated features and technology. This will ensure that the Bolt remains one of the most affordable EVs in America.
New Manufacturing Location
Production of the Bolt will shift from Orion Township, Michigan, to GM’s Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas. This facility is being modified and retooled to accommodate the new model, marking a significant change in the Bolt’s production history.
