A Detailed Look at the 2027 Scout Motors Terra and Traveler Models

Scout Motors is making a comeback, and it’s almost here! Today, we get our first look at the future of the Scout brand, and there’s a lot to get excited about, especially for fans of tough, capable machines. If you’re someone who’s into off-roading but also wants a vehicle that’s electric—or nearly electric—Scout may have exactly what you’re looking for. Early numbers suggest great potential, so let’s dive into what Scout has in store.

The Return of Iconic Names and a Robust Build

Scout is bringing back its roots with a focus on SUV and pickup truck basics—robust build quality and strong, recognizable names. The two models Scout plans to offer initially are the Traveler SUV and the Terra truck.

If you’re familiar with the history of the International Harvester brand, these names are no strangers to you. The new designs bring some familiar elements, such as styling cues from the original Terra and Traveler models. However, the modern take on these vehicles also carries a quasi-Rivian-like aesthetic, though with a toned-down approach.

The styling of the new models blends modern electric vehicle aesthetics with a nod to their heritage. The Traveler SUV, in particular, strongly evokes the original Scout look. The bold front and rear lighting elements are a clear homage to Scout’s legacy.

The interior carries a Rivian-like quality, but with a more premium feel, which is a pleasant surprise. While these may be concept models, the premium look could be carried over to the production versions, or at least as an option.

Body-on-Frame Design and Off-Road Capability

A hallmark of the Scout brand is its rugged build, and this return is no different. Both the Traveler and Terra will feature a body-on-frame design, solid rear axles, and impressive towing and payload capabilities.

The Traveler is expected to have a tow rating of over 7,000 pounds, while the Terra will be capable of towing more than 10,000 pounds.

Both models can accommodate tires as large as 35 inches, with over a foot of ground clearance and the ability to ford nearly three feet of water. These features are sure to excite off-road enthusiasts.

Electric Power and Performance

Despite being electric vehicles, the Scout models won’t compromise on off-road performance. They are designed to deliver instant torque, which is essential for off-roading, and will feature front and rear mechanical lockers, as well as a disconnecting front sway bar for improved off-road performance.

The most powerful models are expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, thanks to nearly 1,000 lb-ft of torque.

On the charging front, the Scout will use the North American charging standard, running on an 800-volt architecture. This means you’ll be able to charge anywhere, with charging speeds of up to 350 kW. The expected driving range is a solid 350 miles, though towing will reduce this number.

For those who need more range, Scout plans to offer a version with a gas-powered range extender. This small internal combustion engine will send power to the battery, boosting the driving range to more than 500 miles. The system is called the “Harvester,” adding a fun and practical twist to the electric vehicle experience.

Affordable Pricing and Reservations

One of the most exciting aspects of Scout’s return is the pricing. Both the Terra truck and Traveler SUV are expected to start under $60,000, and with available incentives, that price could fall to just over $50,000.

Since these vehicles will be built in South Carolina, they should qualify for the highest level of incentives. However, production isn’t expected to start until 2027.

If you’re eager to secure a spot when production begins, you can make a reservation starting today for just $100, fully refundable.

A Personal Dream

As a fan of both classic off-road rigs and modern electric vehicles, this new direction for Scout ticks a lot of personal boxes. I can already picture a green Terra, fully equipped with a go-fast camper and a mountain bike mounted to the hitch.

While there’s plenty of time to save up for this dream, Scout’s return definitely has me excited for what’s to come.
